A good Sunday

Today has been a good day.

Mum and I went to a meet-up organised by the local Stitch ‘n’ Bitch group – we popped along and knitted, chatted, swapped, and I had a go at spinning on a wheel. Ooooh, how I want a wheel! The lovely Lucy of The Bear Necessities showed me how to spin on her wheel, and I bought some divine sock yarn from her.

Merino superwash sock yarn <3

I also used a skein winder for the first time – how cool are they?! I love how the yarn turns into a cakey little thing ^_^ (Simple things please simple minds!)

And I turned the heel on my second sock (again)…

By all accounts, a good time was had by all!

My pepper plants, which I had lost hope of ever doing anything!

Whilst I was checking my “crops” (I went to pick some beans and lollo rosso – we had them in our salad for dinner and they were delicious!), I spotted this beauty on the buddleia.

I think it’s a “Peacock Butterfly” – we saw some yesterday too!

So overall, a good day! Tomorrow, my sister and I are going for a makeover at MAC :D

We went to Maison Bertaux for something to eat…

… And then we went to see Blur

OK, so the pictures are really bad, but the gig was spectacular. Go listen! They even originate from a town near me, that’s how awesome they are!

More covered frames

I’m in two minds as to whether to put these on Etsy – what do you guys think?

Mum found this online and printed it for me – I love it!

Mmmmm.

Those of you in the UK will probably know of Sainsbury’s recipe cards – free cards with cheap recipes for family meals, drinks and desserts. We’ve been collecting them (new ones come out periodically) and trying out some of the recipes, with varying results. Tonight we tried out the paella – a traditional Spanish dish of rice and seafood. The last time I ate paella was on holiday in Ibiza about ten years ago – there were a lot more feelers and eyes and claws then than there was with this recipe, thankfully!

Mmmm!

This is so easy to cook!

Serves: 4
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes

* 1 x 100g pack of Spanish Chorizo
* 1 x 150g pack of large peeled prawns
* Olive oil
* 1 red onion, roughly chopped
* 1 red pepper, finely sliced
* 2 x 125g packs of Golden Vegetable savoury rice
* Frozen peas
(You can get all the ingredients for this recipe for less than a fiver from Sainsbury’s.)

1. Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and add 1 red onion, peeled and roughly chopped. Fry for a couple of minutes, then add 2 x 125g Golden Vegetable savoury rice. Add 800ml water, then turn to a low heat and cook for approximately 15 minutes until the rice is tender.
2. Meanwhile, cut 70g Spanish chorizo into halves and fry in a separate pan until it starts to become crispy. Add 1 x 150g pack basics large peeled prawns and 1 red pepper, deseeded and finely sliced. Heat through for a few minutes.
3. Once the rice is cooked, add to the pan with the chorizo and prawns and combine. Add a handful of frozen peas, then warm through and serve immediately.

We left out the chorizo, and just stuck with prawns. This was a tasty, filling and cheap dinner – ticks all the boxes for me!
